Outdoor Activities at Alura
Our scenic outdoor spaces are constantly buzzing with activity. Residents rave about our packed activities calendar, which allows them to curate the perfect day, every day. Our schedule includes a mix of things to do outside and inside, which keeps everybody moving and engaged.
Here are a few of our most popular outdoor activities. Because of our humid, subtropical Floridian climate, residents enjoy these favorites year-round.
Flex and Stretch
Mobile residents gather by the koi pond in the early morning for a guided movement class. They love to address their sun salutations with the actual sun in view! Our talented instructor ensures everyone is safe as they move their bodies in fun and appropriate ways.
Weekend gardening is a resident favorite! Tending the seeds and the soil provides incredible sensory enrichment. Our residents keep their minds sharp as they practice plant care and work on essential executive functioning skills.
We want to ensure residents at all cognitive levels can enjoy the beauty of our outdoor settings. Memory care residents enjoy daily, supervised outdoor strolls. They engage their senses and their bodies as they explore the natural environment and socialize with a group of their peers.
Keeping the mind sharp is about more than breathing in fresh air! We love bringing our favorite games out into the garden and enjoying mental enrichment and stimulation under the sun. Residents enjoy trivia challenges, favorite board games, and simple activities like ring toss to get their blood flowing and their brains busy.
Cornhole in the Courtyard
Cornhole is a popular pastime for people of all ages, and our Alura seniors are no exception! Residents get competitive when the beanbags and cornhole boards come out. It’s the perfect low-impact athletic activity for a sunny afternoon and allows residents to work on hand-eye coordination and maintain some muscle.
Did you know that Florida is home to nearly 200 unique species of breeding birds? Many of them make their homes in the trees in and around the Alura property. Birdsong forms the soundtrack as our residents go about their busy, meaningful days. Our residents love creating birdfeeders in arts and crafts. As they say, “if you build it, they will come!” Every community member enjoys watching their feathery friends steal seeds, perch in the trees, and provide beautiful music for the community.
Monthly Ice Cream Socials
We all scream for ice cream! Local business 321Sprinkles provides our residents with some delicious frozen treats each month. We love spreading out across the courtyard and enjoying our cones in a shady spot.
While our landscaped facilities provide endless opportunities for outdoor engagement, our assisted and independent living residents love to explore Rockledge and the surrounding area. Outings are a regular part of our monthly programming.
Some of our most popular off-campus trips and destinations include:
- Kennedy Space Center
- Local restaurants

There is no shortage of scenery as our residents board the buses and set off on local adventures. We look forward to adding new destinations to our roster of outings as the year progresses.
